What is the Stay Home and Safe Program (SH&SP)?

The SH&SP is an outreach program for Abilene residents to “Stay Home and Stay Safe”, focusing on individuals not able to/or may have difficulty accessing resources. The intent of this project is to minimize nonessential movement of Abilene residents, ensuring no individuals are left behind.

The SH&SP will utilize an organizational structure of volunteers covering assigned areas that represent different regions within the City of Abilene. Volunteers will utilize a community portal to connect with Abilene residents, identifying potential needs and, connecting individuals with available resource and service providers.

What will the Stay Home and Stay Safe Program try to accomplish?

URA is developing a program for Taylor County residents to “Stay Home and Stay Safe.” We are organizing our City of Abilene neighborhoods and facilitating this process using an integrated, web-based, software program. Again, our purpose is to minimize the nonessential movement of Abilene residents during our COVID-19 pandemic and also ensure that every household in our community has a person that they can contact for help.

The program will begin with an organizational structure of volunteers to cover assigned areas of the City of Abilene and its 60,000 households. Our current task is to identify, train, and equip over 500 volunteers from many organizations, businesses, and faith based entities to accomplish the mission of “Stay Home and Stay Safe.”
