August News and Updates

Preparedness Peace

The URA team finished another Preparedness Peace training with a local church! United Rescue Alliance enjoys every opportunity to share about the importance of preparedness for individuals and communities, especially from a Biblical mindset.

The Preparedness Peace training consists of six weekly trainings for churches and groups. Each week covers a different topic like the basic essentials for home and family preparedness, vital document storage, how to ensure your family has clean and safe drinking water, and evacuation plans. By the end of the training you, your church or group, and your family, will be confident in your ability to prepare for and survive a disaster.

Partner Spotlight: Watts of Love

URA loves their partners! This month we want to highlight the partnership with an organization called Watts of Love. Watts of Love created a handheld solar light that can last for 120 hours on one charge. The light can be held in the palm of your hand, worn around your neck, and strapped to your head as a headlamp. Watts of Love provides their lights to those with little or no electricity so that they can stay safe at night and even continue working to provide for their families. Their patented product is changing lives, and changing the world!

Not only are the solar lights a necessity for those in areas with minimal or no electricity, the lights should be a staple in every go-bag and preparedness kit! When natural disasters cause the power to go out, Watts of Love’s solar lights become an invaluable resource. Make sure your families preparedness kit has a solar light!

URA Guatemala

The United Rescue Alliance Guatemala team spent the warm month of August painting and preparing to launch a new community center and two new medical clinics in Escuintla. This community center will be a hub for education of all kinds, from basic hygiene to disaster preparedness! The URA Guatemala team is so excited for the opportunity to offer these resources to the community!

To round out the month, Dr. Brenda De Zamora had the honor of hosting an online Introduction to First Aid class for the Rotary Club of Guatemala City! This class taught important, and potentially life savings techniques to local community members and officials.

URA America Visits URA Guatemala

URA America is so excited to be visiting the URA Guatemala team at the end of August through the beginning of September! While there, the team plans to assist URA Guatemala in finishing the long awaited community center. The team will also have the opportunity to distribute things like Watts of Love solar lights, children’s books and backpacks, and bread to villages and communities with very few resources. These resources will help children go to and stay in school, and make sure that they have all the tools they need to succeed!

Be sure to look for the September newsletter to hear about the trip!

August is National Resilience Month!

Here at United Rescue Alliance, resilience is one of our top priorities! Without resilient households and organizations, disasters will cause even more damage and take even more lives.

One way that you can champion resilience in your community is by making sure that you are personally prepared for disasters!

September is National Preparedness Month!

Getting prepared for disasters can feel overwhelming and daunting, but it doesn’t have to be! Preparedness can be simple. The first step to making sure that you and your household are prepared for disasters is by making a go bag and preparedness kit. Every member of your household should have a backpack with 3 days worth of clothing and supplies.

URA loves helping households and communities get prepared! Visit the link below to learn more about our Preparedness Peace training.

Praying for Our State, Country and Globe!

August was a tragic month for many. Our world has seen many wildfires, subsequent disasters and loss of life this month. United Rescue Alliance would like to encourage everyone to be praying for the survivors of the Abilene/Potosi wildfires, the Maui wildfires, the Kelowna wildfires, and all of the other communities affected by adverse weather and fires. URA stands with these communities in partnership and prayer!

URA would like to acknowledge and thank the first responders, Big Country VOAD and all of those involved in the Abilene/Potosi wildfires who responded so quickly and worked so hard to contain the fire before any significant damage occurred!

Join Us for Worship!

Every Tuesday night at 6:30pm, URA hosts a night of worship and prayer at the Camp Barkeley Worship Center. All are welcome and invited!
